The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will be offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course Wednesday and Friday evenings from November 28, 2018-January 4, 2019. Students must be 15 years or older and proof of age must be brought to the pre-test.
All participants must pass a pre-test, which will be given on November 14. If the student does not pass the pre-test, a refund, less $10 will be issued. This test consists of the following:
* 300 yards continuously, using crawl stroke with rhythmic and breast strokes
* tread water two minutes, legs only
* complete a time event within one minute and 40 seconds; swim 20 yards, surface dive to seven-ten feet and retrieve a 10lb object, return to surface, swim on back with object to starting point and exit the pool without the use of a ladder or steps.
Participants need to come to all classes prepared for both classroom or water instruction. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, as no make-ups will be offered. The course certifies that the successful participant has shown the necessary knowledge and skills required to function as a lifeguard as it includes First Aid and
CPR/PR with AED. This certification is good for two years.
Requests must be submitted in writing. They will be prorated and $10 processing fee is withheld from each program withdrawal. The balance will be applied to your household account to use for a future program. If the refund is due to medical reasons, a full refund will be issued as long as your request is accompanied by a doctor’s note.
The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to change schedules/locations as necessary and cancel programs due to insufficient registration or lack of instructor(s).
Place programs in cart and follow instructions all the way thru. You can either pay online or create a registration form and pay by check. If paying by check you must include your driver’s license number or your registration will be returned. Once we receive your check, we apply it to your online registration form. No one is registered until payment is received and applied to your online registration form. If you do not create an online registration form and come to our office for us to create one for you, an additional $10 fee will be assessed.
