The performing arts come to Monroe as an after school program for sudents in grades k-8. This will be an opportunity for students to explore and unleash their creative energies in a constructive and nurturing environment. Professional level instructors will make this program a "must have" opportunity for all area students. Acting Class: This seven week energetic program teaches the fundamentals of theater acting. Classes are specifically designed to help students build confidence and inspire their imaginations in a supportive environment. Topics and activities will include theater games, improvisational exercisesm acting terminology, concentration exercises, voice and speech, stage skills and script work. Creative Illustrations (drawing and painting class): Children will create art with an emphasis on learning to draw. They will draw detailed pictures, many using characters from their favorite books. Use of different mediums such as oil pastels, acrylic paint and charcoal will be explored. Each piece will be frame worthy! Intro to the World of Modern Dance: So you think you can dance? How about dancing with the real stars of the Connecticut Ballet? The state's nationally recognized professional dance company is coming to Monroe to provide high quality recreational and educational dance instruction to students in grades 6-8. Students will explore the teachings of American dance icons Martha Graham, Jose Limon and Dexter Horton. They will experience the grace, power, artistry and ahtleticism that is unique to this art form.

Refunds
Refunds must be submitted in writing. They will be prorated and $10 processing fee is withheld from each request. The balance will be applied to your household account to use for a future program. If the refund is due to medical reasons, a full refund will be issued as long as your request is accompanied by a doctor’s note.

The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient registration or lack of instructor(s).
