The goal of these programs is to provide an opportunity for boys and girls to become acquainted with the skills and techniques necessary to play the game of basketball. Participation, skill development, sportsmanship and fun will be emphasized over competition.

Teams are selected by a rotating draft of the coaches to be as evenly matched as possible.  Requests to be on a particular team, with a certain coach or to be on the same team as someone else will NOT be honored. Players registering after or who did not attend player evaluation sessions will be placed on any team by the League Director.

Fee of $135 per player which includes their basketball shirt. If registering after November 19, 2014, the registration fee is $150. Third child in family pays half price. The fee covers most costs necessary to operate the league [basketball shirt, gym supervision, referees, custodians, awards, equipment, etc.].  Registration deadline is December 10.

A series of clinics/evaluation sessions will be conducted as an orientation for players.  The evaluation sessions are for team placement only, there are no cuts.  Anyone who does not attend evaluations will be placed on a team by the league director. 

Girls grade 3/4: Practices on Tuesday, games on Thursday.  Evaluations Monday, December 1, 6:00-7:15 at Fawn Hollow.

Girls grade 5-8: Practice Tuesday, games Saturday mornings or early afternoon (rotating schedule with boys 5/6). Evaluations Monday, December 1, 6:00-7:15 at Jockey Hollow.

Boys grade 3/4: Practice Monday or Wednesday, games Saturday mornings. Evaluations for last names beginning A-L Monday, December 8 and last names beginning M-Z Thursday, December 11.  Fawn Hollow 6:00-7:15 both nights.

Boys grade 5/6: Practice on Thursday, games Saturday mornings or early afternoons (rotating schedule with girls 5-8).  Evaluations are at Chalk Hill on December 6.  Last names beginning A-L 9:00-10:15, last names M-Z 10:30-11:45.

Boys grade 7/8: Practice Monday or Tuesday, games Saturday mornings/early afternoon. Evaluations are at Jockey Hollow on December 6.  Last names beginning A-L 9:00-10:15, last names M-Z 10:30-11:45.
Please bring a safety pin to evaluations as you will need to pin your evaluation number to your shirt (we will provide evaluation numbers)

High school basketball league will begin with open gym play and team selection December 13 and 20 at 10am with games starting January 3. Registration deadline is December 10. UPDATED 12/17: the Johnny G High School Basketball League will begin play on Saturday, Jan 3 at Masuk High School.  Team rosters can be found by following a link on the home page of  Teams will be allowed to utilize the Masuk gym on Dec 20 at the following times: Netw and Celtics 10:00-11:30 and Knicks and 76ers 11:30-1:00.  League Director Frank McKane will be on hand to supervise the activity and distrubute basketballs for the practice sessions.  Game schedules and league info will be available by Dec 29 via email and on-line.  Game jerseys will be distributed at the first game.

General Information
  • All registration is based on grade.
  • All basketball leagues will play a nine or ten game season, generally running early December through the end of March depending on specific days of league play.
  • There is no league play on any day school is not in session.
  • Players will be given an evaluation number on their evaluation day.

Place programs in cart and follow instructions all the way thru. You can either pay online or create a registration form and pay by check. If paying by check you must include your driver’s license number or your registration will be returned. Once we receive your check, we apply it to your online registration form. No one is registered until payment is received and applied to your online registration form. If you do not create an online registration form and come to our office for us to create one for you, an additional $10 fee will be assessed.

Requests must be submitted in writing. They will be prorated and $10 processing fee is withheld from each program withdrawal. The balance will be applied to your household account to use for a future program. If the refund is due to medical reasons, a full refund will be issued as long as your request is accompanied by a doctor’s note.

The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to change schedules/locations as necessary and cancel programs due to insufficient registration or lack of instructor(s).

Adults are needed to coach the teams. Requests to coach with another parent of a participant cannot be honored. The league director will select head coaches from those who apply.
